Patrick and Moira D'Cruz joined Capricorn 10 years ago, both accountants, they knew little about the automotive industry but were ready for a new challenge. Brad talks to them about how being part of the co-operative and how it has helped to support them through this change. Wembley Autocare is a family business, like many businesses in the industry, and Capricorn has helped them feel like they have the support to compete in a large market.
Brad Gannon: It's great to be here with Patrick and Moira at Wembley Autocare. Patrick, long term Capricorn Member. We're talking about the importance of cooperation and how big a deal it was that the automotive industry had its own cooperatives in Capricorn. 50 years on, what does that mean for you?
Patrick D'Cruz: It's just it's absolutely astonishing. Absolutely amazing that for 50 years we've had this wonderful cooperative that has supported us. Amongst all the trades automotive is the only one that has a cooperative model. You talk to any Capricorn Member, and they rave about Capricorn, and how it has helped their business.
Moira D'Cruz: Automotive, like most industries, is largely run by family business. It's small business. And a lot of us don't have the tools or the expertise to do this on our own. Capricorn levels the playing field for a lot of us. It makes it possible for really small businesses to compete in a really large market.
Patrick: It just reduces a lot of uncertainty and gives us a lot of comfort knowing that you guys have got our backs to support us going forward and no matter what shape the future may be, we're in good hands and we're very proud that we have been leading the way for 50 years now. That is absolutely astonishing. You know, it's a remarkable achievement that for 50 years you have done nothing but help us all.
