Gabrielle Clift: When I first started out in my apprenticeship, I did not know how an engine ran. I had no idea. I learned all that within four years, and I'm still learning to this day. I don't know everything.
I don't always get it 100% right. But if I don't get it 100% right I venture to find where I went wrong or where I could get assistance and stuff like that. And it's about learning, you know, everything's about learning. Everything's about trying.
You know, if you give it a red hot crack, you will get out what you put in. Starting TAFE, I was the only girl in my trade. We need to get rid of the stigma that this is a male industry. We need to get rid of the stigma that it's just dirt oil and grease because there's so much more beyond that.
I think this award has shown that you don't have to be tough. You just have to be you. You put your mind to it. You get involved with the right people and they want to see you prosper.
I've had so many opportunities, so many doors have opened and so many times I've been able to share my story and hopefully inspire others and encourage others within the industry. I want to congratulate the guys at Capricorn. Congratulations. Happy 50th.
You know, and let's look for the next 50.
