Even though the industry has changed, Capricorn has been pretty constant.

Frank Fonte has been a Capricorn Member since 1982. We had a chat with Frank about how he came to be a Capricorn Member and what Capricorn means to him.

“When I was younger, you worked, you went to school for Year 10, and then your old man says go get a job. So, my brother was picking his car up at Roadbend Motors which was where I started, which was in 1966, and I got an apprenticeship there at a Caltex service station. I came in here, which was about 1982, and here we are.

With Capricorn, it appears that we might have been the 57th one to be in it. The beauty of it was that you didn't have to wander around trying to find accounts and stuff, so all you had to do was actually use your order number. And, at the end of the month, you got a bill. You paid it with a check.

The industry’s changed. Back then, we used to do everything in a car. A car would come in, you’d pull it apart, you'd fix the parts, you put them back in. The industry today is electronic; computers.

Even though the industry has changed, Capricorn has been pretty constant. It's the same to deal with today as it was back then, and if you needed anything, it was always there. I guess with Capricorn, everything's been steady.”

It's crucial for independent workshops to have that sense of belonging and to have an entity like Capricorn that's really fighting for what's best for them.

    Capricorn's Story

Where we are today is a testament not just to the vision of the Original 17 and the hard work of all those who have followed, but to the value Members continue to see in the power of working together.
